Miaomiao’s Chinese for Kids App Teaches Mandarin to Kids Ages 2+

Disclosure: I received the Miaomiao app to review. All opinions are my own.

If you have kids, then you probably already know they love technology. They love it so much that they want to use their electronic devices all the time, sometimes to a fault. Technology, when used properly and in moderation, can provide educational and positive experiences. That’s why it’s important for parents to guide their children and curate the apps and programs they download.

When it comes to language learning, apps can provide both an educational and engaging experience for kids. Apps combine kids’ love of technology with their love of fun and learning. This is something I wish existed when I was a kid. As a child, I attended a Chinese School that used rote memorization as its teaching method. None of the lessons built upon each other. As a result, I didn’t retain much information, and it definitely was not fun.

But things are different today. I’m glad that technology has evolved to create other ways to support language learning. I now can provide my children with options.

One option I’ve embraced is the Miaomiao’s Chinese for Kids App which makes learning Mandarin Chinese easy and fun for children ages 2 years and up. The animated app features a little Chinese girl named Miaomiao and her animal friends. Through their adventures, kids learn how to say and write Mandarin words related to their daily lives.

I love that Miaomiao’s Chinese for Kids App offers 50+ engaging videos that each introduce a new word or phrase. Mandarin preschool teachers and early language learning consultants helped to create these educational videos.

My daughters enjoyed choosing the topic to learn – everything from numbers and family members to animals and greetings. They really loved watching the videos where they could hear Chinese words and see them in context.

At the end of each episode, the app offers a word tracing activity so that kids can practice writing in Chinese using their fingers on the touchscreen. My kids really embraced using the app, and I don’t mind letting them using it since they’re learning Mandarin Chinese!

There is also an option to view all episodes in Mandarin Chinese, and it teaches English words. This is ideal for Chinese-speaking children who are learning English or for English-speaking children who seek a more immersive Chinese experience.

For parents, the app includes a parent console to view your child’s progress. You can see which words they’ve learned and episodes they’ve watched. The app is also COPPA compliant meaning there are privacy protections in place for your child. There are no ads or in-app purchases.
