Two Easy Healthy Recipes: Korean BBQ Tofu Sliders and Sweet and Sour Chili Tofu

Disclosure: I received samples to assess. All opinions expressed are my own.

Did you know a recent report released by the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee urges Americans to eat less meat and instead embrace a more plant-based diet. Eating more plant-based proteins like tofu is not only healthier but also uses fewer resources like land, water and energy.

Nasoya, manufacturer of Asian-inspired food products, offers a wide variety of tofu that can provide plant-based protein. In addition to producing tofu of various firmness, Nasoya also makes TofuPlusSprouted TofuPlus and Extra Firm TofuPlus which are fortified with key vitamins. Those looking to incorporate antioxidants in their diets can try Black Soybean TofuPlus.

Tofu is easy to cook with and absorbs the flavors of the food and sauces around it. While tofu is often associated with Asian dishes, it can be used in many other types of cuisines. Need some ideas on how to cook with tofu? Nasoya.com includes a large array of recipes such as Farfalle with Pesto, Kale & Garlic parmesan Crusted Tofu and Mushroom and Spinach Cannelloni.

Here are a couple of my favorite recipes on Nasoya.com:

Ingredients

1 package TofuPlus Sprouted Super Firm Tofu
1 cup canola oil
1 cup Korean BBQ sauce
2 cups kimchi, coarsely chopped
20-24 slider buns
1/4 cup micro wasabi or other sprouts, for garnish

Instructions
  • Slice the tofu crosswise into 1/2-inch thick slices. Halve the slices.
  • In a large, deep pot, over high heat, heat the canola oil. Fry the tofu in the hot oil for 3-4 minutes on each side or until crispy. Remove to a paper towel-lined plate and repeat until all tofu is fried.
  • Brush the still hot tofu on both sides with the Korean BBQ sauce.
  • Top each slider bun with a square of tofu, kimchi, and a few sprigs of wasabi. Serve warm.

Also try this recipe and other sandwiches with Nayonaise, the first soy based vegan mayonnaise. Get the taste of mayonnaise but in a healthier form. It’s made with non-GMO ingredients and expeller pressed oil, it’s cholesterol free and a good source of vitamin B12.  For a traditional mayonnaise flavor try Nayonaise or Nayonaise Light, and for a tangier zest try NayoWhipped.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons coconut or peanut oil
1 14-16 oz. Package Nasoya Firm Tofu, cut into slabs
2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 tablespoon powdered ginger
1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions
·         In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except oil and tofu. Soak the Tofu in the mixture and place on plate.
·         In a large pan over high heat, place the oil and fry the tofu evenly on each side. Serve with rice and veggies (or my favorite, mashed yams with coconut milk!) and enjoy!
