Self-Care Tips for the Busy Mom
If you’re like the majority of the population, you lead a busy and sometimes hectic life. This, in itself, is all the more reason to take make self-care a priority. As a mom, you may tend to feel guilty doing something for yourself. However, in reality, by maintaining good mental and physical health, you are better able to tend to the needs of your loved ones.

De-Stress
Living on the edge of a mental breakdown can cause serious health problems in the future. Instead, learn ways to de-stress. A brisk walk at work during lunch will clear your head and restore energy, naturally. This will allow you to return to your desk with focus and resolve, making the afternoon bearable. At home, take a few minutes each day to meditate. Meditation requires very little space so it’s easy to do just about anywhere.
If you often get headaches from the weight of the world on your shoulders and you find yourself reaching for your bottle of Tylenol more than you’d like, why not try something that’s natural such as Willow Bark aspirin. In addition to relieving a headache, it also works for a debilitating migraine and inflammation.
Maintain a Healthy Weight
Gaining even a few pounds a year can lead quickly to obesity and put you at risk for type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. It can also put unnecessary stress on your bones, ligaments, and joints. Thankfully with a few modifications to your diet, you can lose the weight slowly and keep it off. Eliminate processed foods as much as possible and replace sweet treats with fresh fruits and vegetables and nuts. Not only will you look terrific, but you’ll also feel great too.
Get a Good Night’s Rest
With work, family, and finances occupying your mind, falling into a deep sleep may sometimes seem unachievable. However, it’s not. Finding ways to unload your mind prior to bedtime will allow you to remain calm and fall asleep. If you have an overload of work at the office, try to solicit the help of others. If you have too many tasks at home to tend to, get other family members to pitch in, too.
What you consume at night can also affect your sleep. Try to refrain from eating anything heavy, sugary or with caffeine at least two hours before going to bed. Certain scents can also help put your body in a state of relaxation such as chamomile and lavender.
Workout Several Times a Week
You do everything for everyone else. As such, perhaps you sometimes neglect your own body. After the age of 30, it’s much harder to retain muscle mass. Luckily, starting a regimen that includes a 30-45 minutes workout 3 to 4 times a week will tone your body, restore energy, and keep your internal organs functioning properly. You can join the gym, but if you have trouble finding time in your busy schedule, you may never get there. Thankfully, you can do other forms of exercise that will offer much of the same results. You can ride a bike, swim, or even dance your way to excellent physical fitness. Another option is to watch free online fitness videos so you can exercise in the comfort of your own home.
Embrace Plants
People and plants complement each other. A few house plants spread throughout the home can reduce the presence of carbon dioxide, help you to remain calm, and give your home’s interior a cozy feel. Even if you don’t have a green thumb, you can find plants for your home or office that require very little personal care. Aloe, lavender, spider plants, and cactus are just a few that will fit in well with your busy life.
Practicing self-care is something every person should do for themselves. Self-care can include seeking advice from friends and professionals when the going gets too tough with family life, work, friends, and more. Improving your wellbeing will also improve your quality of life so that you can be a better person to those that matter the most.
