School Assembly Programs for Pre-K to Grade 12: “How to Write a Children’s Book,” “It’s Chinese New Year, Curious George,” and “My Name Is Ai Lin”
As a parent of school-aged children and former PTA President, I know how important it is for schools to bring high-quality, engaging, educational school assembly programs to their students. It’s also important that artists (authors, performers, etc.) understand their audiences and adjust their programs to fit students’ age levels.
That’s why my author visit programs are created with all of this in mind. It’s not enough just to read through a book. A presenter at a school should also fulfill a curriculum need while interacting with students in a way that will keep them interested.
As an award-winning children’s author, I use my books, IT’S CHINESE NEW YEAR, CURIOUS GEORGE, and more recently, MY NAME IS AI LIN, to support literacy skills set against a multicultural backdrop through my stories.

Program #1: HOW TO WRITE A CHILDREN’S BOOK (Pre-K to Teens)
Great for Read-a-Thons, PARP, Career Day, and for Supporting Writing/Literacy Skills
In this presentation, adjusted for grade levels, students will learn the structure of writing a children’s book, what agents and editors are looking for when choosing which manuscripts to publish, and the different paths to publishing. I use my books as examples for storytelling and illustration development.
Program #2: IT’S CHINESE NEW YEAR, CURIOUS GEORGE (Pre-K to Grade 6)
Book Reading & Chinese Culture Presentation
Everyone’s favorite curious little monkey celebrates Chinese New Year with his friend Mei as they prepare for this special holiday! This engaging and interactive program is great for Curious George fans, whether celebrating Chinese New Year or learning about its traditions for the first time.
Program #3: MY NAME IS AI LIN Multicultural Picture Book (Pre-K to Grade 6)
