Relaxation and Meditation Tips for the Busy Mom

It’s no secret that moms don’t get a lot of time for ourselves. After all, we have to feed, clothe, bathe, and keep our kids safe every day. When we became moms, most of us had some inkling of how our world would shift. However we didn’t completely understand how joining the mom tribe would place us on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And, we don’t have the opportunity to call in sick or take a mental health day. The demands of raising a family, while amazing most of the time, can find us feeling stressed out and heading for burnout.

Thankfully, there is hope.

Studies are uncovering that we, as busy mothers, can cope with our day-to-day demands better if we harness the power of relaxation and meditation. Researchers have found that mothers who meditate exhibit lower levels of stress, anxiety, and mental distress and naturally find it easier to relax. It doesn’t matter if you are a new or seasoned mom, busy or overscheduled, and just trying to juggle nap schedules or college applications. Taking a few minutes every day to unwind can be the answer to helping us reclaim our smiles and sense of calm.

For help on this journey, please scroll through the following relaxation and meditation tips for the busy mom to help you become a happier, healthier, and the best mom you can be.

Find Your Happy Place

Within your home, choose a location where it is quiet and relaxing. Use this peaceful area as your go-to spot when you need to seek a little solace, meditation, or just calm your nerves. Keep distractions limited by powering down the television, radio, or the phone. Bask in the peace.

Keep It Simple, Sweetie (KISS)

Keep it simple, sweetie. For busy moms, it isn’t practical to set aside large chunks of time to meditate, relax or hit the spa. Embrace mini meditations that can fit into your schedule. You can fit in these simple types of meditations while you are walking, showering, doing the dishes, and more. Just be mindful and avoid worrying about your never-ending to-do list. Some simple ways to meditate anytime or anywhere is to focus on your senses, such as water running on your skin, the warmth of sunlight streaming on your body, or even the smell of your favorite soap while concentrating on your breathing.

Try a Guided Journey

Mothers do a lot, and sometimes that leaves us mentally exhausted. After all, there are times we can barely remember to switch a load of clean laundry into the dryer. When you are feeling tapped out, follow a guided meditation on YouTube or any other platform you prefer. This will help you to relax and clear your mind without requiring a lot of effort on your part or adding stress to your days.

Find Some Good Vibes

Busy moms can use music and soothing sounds as powerful relaxation and meditation resources. Sound can soothe or energize our souls during the day without requiring a lot of extra time, equipment, or costs. Use headphones to cancel out noisy interruptions for a few moments or sit in the car and turn on the radio. To turn up the relaxation, consider soaking in a hot bath while playing your favorite playlist, meditation music, or calming sounds to rinse away stress.

Tap Into Gemstones or Crystals

Many trendy health advocates are touting the benefits of using stones or crystals to activate healing while helping you meditate. For years, people have found that laying stones or crystals on certain spots of your body can activate hidden healing properties and open higher consciousness of the mind. Many women compare this trend to aromatherapy and meditation. To be more mindful, select crystals or gemstones that fit your personality or needs.

Just Breathe

Finding time to squeeze one more obligation into our days can seem overwhelming and just add to the amount of stress we are feeling. When time is tight and grabbing even five minutes of alone time seems impossible, take a deep breath. One of the easiest ways busy mothers can relax or meditate is by focusing on our breathing. During the day, while driving carpool, changing clothes, or making dinner, take five deep long breaths. Make sure to inhale through the nasal passage and exhale out from the mouth. Deep breathing, even if it is just for five breaths, can help us slow down and relax.

Turn on a Light

When you are feeling stressed, take a minute to visualize a ball of white light moving over your body. As the light passes over an area, imagine it relaxing your muscles. This technique can be surprisingly effective when you are overwhelmed or need to calm down.
