“Raya and the Last Dragon” Disney Movie Giveaway #DisneyRaya

Walt Disney Animation Studios recently released its animated film, the epic adventure of “Raya and the Last Dragon,” on 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™ and DVD. I had been eagerly waiting to view this film, not only because of great reviews from friends but also because Raya and the Last Dragon is a milestone in the film industry regarding representation.
The animated fantasy movie features Disney’s first Southeast Asian princess, Raya, voiced by Vietnamese-American actress Kelly Marie Tran. Disney’s creative team visited multiple countries in the region to conduct cultural research, including Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore. Inspired by these Southeast Asian cultures, Disney created the fictional land of Kumandra.
Once a peaceful land, Kumandra broke up into five regions due to humans’ lack of trust and greed. Evil monsters called Druun threatened to turn people into stone, wreaking havoc on those who survived. Raya, a lone warrior, must find the legendary magical dragon named Sisu to quell the Druun and bring peace back. Themes of trust and teamwork run throughout the film.
I found the storyline engaging and the animation impressive. I loved that the movie introduced Southeast Asian culture to children and featured a strong, smart, and kind heroine who was diverse. The ending made me tear up, and that’s a sign of strong emotional pull in the film. My family enjoyed the action, fantasy world, and fun characters throughout the movie.
