The first time I heard of Pi Day I thought it was a day to honor pies, as in baked goods. After all, who wouldn’t want to celebrate a day by eating pies?

There is a National Pie Day that takes place on January 23 each year, but I’m not referring that one. I’m talking about Pi Day as in the mathematical constant 3.14. Non-coincidentally, this commemorative day falls on March 14 to reflect its mathematical numerals.

Pi is an irrational number, meaning its digits go on forever without repeating. And how cool is it that the length around the outside of a circle is approximately 3.14 its width?
