In celebration of Women’s History Month, Newsday invited a group of local female Influencers to its Fabulous Females event. I was honored to be part of this group of inspiring women! Led by Newsday women executives, the group toured the media company’s new high-tech headquarters and leading-edge multimedia studios.

The new building was centrally located on Long Island in Melville (6 Corporate Center Drive). It was close to major highways such as the Long Island Expressway, Northern State Parkway, and Southern State Parkway for easy access.

The Fabulous Females met in the building’s modern lobby reception area which was adjacent to Newsday Productions Studio II. As we entered the multimedia theater, we were in awe of this state-of-the-art live audience and virtual event space. A massive 32-foot screen spanning the length of the 2,600 square-foot stage welcomed us.

We learned that Newsday hopes that the 186-seat multimedia space will be more than just a meeting place for internal staff meetings and presentations. Newsday envisions the space to be like the “92nd Street Y of Long Island,” referring to Manhattan’s famed cultural and community center.

Newsday plans to work with schools to bring in students for educational programs. In fact, Newsday leaders have already met with local educators to showcase the facilities. What was the one thing teachers asked for in the theater? Chargers! No problem — every seat included its own charging outlet.

For companies and individuals, Newsday rents out Studio II for meetings, seminars, award ceremonies, performances, concerts, and more. The studio boasted 7.1 surround sound audio, customizable lighting, multiple LED screens, four robotic cameras, breakout meeting rooms, and more.

Studio I Stage Set and Virtual Set

The Fabulous Females also visited Studio I which included both a stage set and a 3D virtual set. Newsday TV’s Senior Lifestyle Host, Elisa DiStefano, showed us Studio I where she filmed her segments. NewsdayTV is the media company’s video initiative that delivers content through digital platforms.

The spacious customizable Studio I stage set featured a LED display wall, vertical monitors, an anchor desk, and a rotating display monitor. We had a chance to pose behind the anchor desk to imagine for a moment that we were delivering the news!

Across from this area was the 3D virtual set. The 24′ x 10′ green screen allowed for limitless background options. It was an amazing experience to see these studios up close!

Control Room and Newsroom

During the tour, we viewed the independent control room for the studios featuring Newsday’s award-winning production team. It was so interesting to see the media company’s “command central” area.

We also visited the newsroom where journalists were hard at work. Multiple television screens aired broadcasts from other news stations

The space included its own stage for journalists to film “live from the newsroom” which would literally be true!

Thank You for the Fabulous Females Event!

It was such a great experience to visit Newsday’s new headquarters. Seeing everything up close with a personal tour was amazing. During the event, we also met so many fabulous women who were uplifting others through their organizations and reaching communities through their influential sphere on Long Island. Empowered women empower others. Thank you to Kim Grabina-Como, Newsday Communication Director, for inviting me to this special event!
