We’ve all heard horror stories about lice, those little stubborn critters they prey on scalps, are difficult to remove, and easily spread to others. That’s why I’m glad I can protect my kids with this spray to minimize the chances they’ll catch lice at school. Plus, this detangler will save me time in the mornings before school so that I can easily comb through my kids’ tangles.

4-Ingredient Hair Detangler and Lice Repellent Spray

Lice Spray Ingredients

This all-natural spray recipe only requires four ingredients so it’s super quick and easy to make. It’s also much cheaper to make your own versus buying over-the-counter sprays which can get pricey.

I got the aloe vera gel and vegetable glycerin on Amazon. I just used tap water though distilled water is fine, too. Regarding essential oils, lice are repelled by certain scents such as lavender, tea tree (melaleuca), and rosemary. With this spray recipe, you can use either of these, or even a blend of one of more. I used a half-and-half mixture of lavender oil and tea tree (melaleuca) oil.

Since we want this recipe is to be toxin-free, it’s important to use essential oils that are 100% certified pure and transparent about their ingredients. I use dōTERRA essential oils because they are certified to exclude synthetic fillers and toxins. Unlike most other oil companies, dōTERRA goes through the extra step of testing each batch of oil produced. The company uses third-party labs that have no affiliation with dōTERRA to ensure its purity. You can even find out each bottle’s test results online. Containers Safe to Use With Essential Oils

It’s important to use the correct kind of container when using essential oils. Some essential oils contain compounds that can leach into plastic. To be safe, use containers made of glass, metal, or high-quality plastic called HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene).

For this recipe, I used a 4 oz. cobalt blue glass bottle I found on Amazon. Both cobalt blue and amber-colored bottles are ideal to use with essential oils as they help to keep out deteriorating sunlight while protecting the aromatic and therapeutic properties of the essential oils.
