Little Sen’s Chinese Holidays Bilingual Picture Book Review and 20% Discount Code

Note: Thank you to Shiny Lantern for providing a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Living in the United States, my kids are familiar with all the American holidays. However, they don’t know much about Chinese holidays beyond Chinese New Year. Since Chinese is part of their background, it’s important to me that they’re aware of their heritage.

I find that using books is an ideal tool for educating kids. It’s fun for them to read and they learn through the stories. That’s why I was happy to discover the picture book Little Sen’s Chinese Holidays.

Written by Yujia Zhao and illustrated by Yulin Li, Little Sen’s Chinese Holidays is a bilingual picture book written in both simplified Chinese and English.  The author takes special care to ensure that the story reads in a way that feels natural in both languages.

Chinese Holidays Little Sen Bicultural Mama

Ideal for children ages 3-8 years old, the book follows a young boy named Little Sen as he experiences Chinese holidays throughout the year. Holidays featured includes:

  • Spring Festival / Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year)
  • Lantern Festival
  • Qingming Festival / Tomb Sweeping Day
  • Duanwu Festival / Dragon Boat Festival
  • Mid-Autumn Festival
  • Double Ninth Festival

What I love about this book is not only the bilingual and educational aspects but also the gorgeous illustrations and high-quality printing. The illustrations’ vivid, bold colors bring the pages alive with activity and excitement. Readers follow Little Sen as he experiences the holidays through traditions, foods, and family.
