Valentine’s Day Juice Ice Cubes Can Encourage Kids to Hydrate
Note: Thank you to Juicy Juice for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

We all love our kids, and we’re especially reminded of this as Valentine’s Day approaches. As loving parents, we strive to take care of our kids and ensure they’re at their best physically and emotionally. Staying hydrated is a big part of staying healthy.
Kids are so busy buzzing with activities that they often forget to hydrate. Though water is best for hydration, some kids don’t prefer it. As such, they may not drink it and become dehydrated.

Benefits of Drinking Water and Dehydration Effects
According to the CDC, the main benefits of drinking water include:
- Keeping your temperature normal
- Lubricating and cushioning joints
- Protecting your spinal cord and other sensitive tissues
- Getting rid of waste
The Mayo Clinic states that dehydration can lead to serious complications such as:
- Heat injury (heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heatstroke)
- Urinary and kidney problems
- Seizures
- Low blood volume shock (hypovolemic shock)
It’s clear that keeping hydrated is a necessary life function for all of us.
Juice Ice Cubes Can Help Hydrate
For kids who may resist drinking much plain water, there are other ways to keep them hydrated. An easy and delicious way to do so is to flavor flat or seltzer water with fruit-flavored juice ice cubes.

For Valentine’s Day, make it fun by freezing heart-shaped juice cubes. Heart-shaped ice trays are easy to find online at Amazon. You can get them for under $10.
We used lower-sugar Juicy Juice Fruitifuls Organic juice. Flavors include Fruit Punch, Apple, and Grape. Fruit punch will freeze into red hearts, Apple into golden, and Grape into pinkish-purple hearts.

Hydrating Valentine's Day Juice Ice Cubes
Ingredients
- Juicy Juice Fruitifuls Organics or any other Juicy Juice beverage
Instructions
- Pour juice into a heart-shaped ice cube tray.
- Freeze for about 4 hours until frozen.
- Remove juice ice cubes from the tray and enjoy!
Notes
"Cook Time" listed above is actually the freezer time since there's no cooking involved. Place unused ice cubes in a freezer bag and store in the freezer.
For a dessert twist, try adding heart-shaped juice ice cubes to a bowl of ice cream for some delicious and colorful fun. Adding fruit juice ice cubes to flavor ice cream is not much different in flavor toppings than drizzling strawberry syrup or adding berries. Try it for yourself!
