Hearts For Hearts Girls Inspire Global Outlook, Social Responsibility

Thousands of dolls exist in the marketplace, but one that stands out for introducing a global outlook and incorporating social responsibility is Hearts For Hearts Girls by Playmate Toys Inc. The multicultural dolls represent real girls from all over the world who are working to make life better for herself, her family, community, and country. Each doll includes a story book that illustrates to young girls how their peers live in other countries.

Gina Beebe, Senior Vice President of Girls Marketing at Playmate Toys Inc. answered, “We looked at the global map and wanted to spread throughout it to have a presence in all different areas. For example, we wanted to have an Asian presence so we looked at countries in Asia that were both rich in culture and also under deserved. Laos is a country that many people are not aware of, so representing a young girl from here helps bring attention to the area.”Bicultural Mama inquired about the unique countries chosen to represent some of the Hearts For Hearts Girls. For instance, many doll companies would have automatically chosen larger and more well-known countries such as China to represent the Asian doll.

To highlight social responsibility, Playmates Toys Inc. is donating a portion of each doll sale to non-profit organizations that serve the regions that the Hearts for Hearts Girls dolls represent.
The toy industry has recognized Hearts for Hearts Girls, naming the doll line to Dr. Toy’s 10 Best Socially Responsible Products List just a few weeks ago.

Girls can explore the kid-safe Hearts for Hearts Girls website (www.heartsforheartsgirls.com) that features games, activities, and real stories about girls from around the world. To unlock the online membership field, kids simply type in the special code included with each doll purchase.

I’d love to buy these if they had them in Australia. I’ve seen few multicultural dolls here, except the new IKEA ones (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/series/21132/), and that’s such a pity, given we are a very multicultural country.

I was really excited to see these at the Toy Fair. I think they’re fabulous…the cause and the concept. Dolls have come a long way!

I love this concept – this is something I would love to support, buy for my daughter and others for gifts. It’s something I can appreciate giving, much more than overpriced dolls from certain other corporations that do not donate to a good cause. It’s very reasonably priced (as per an earlier comment), too.

Love that these dolls are multicultural.

These dolls remind me of a favorite book I had as a child. The father would travel for business and bring her back dolls depicting the culture of the country he had traveled to. I absolutely loved it because the dolls were beautiful.
