Four Seasons of Fun Picture Book – Egg Hunts! Fireworks! Pumpkins! Reindeer!
Disclosure: I received a copy of the book to review. All opinions are my own.

New from Sleeping Bear Press is the picture book Four Seasons of Fun: Egg Hunts! Fireworks! Pumpkins! Reindeer! written by Pamela Duncan Edwards and illustrated by Sylvie Daigneault. This book provides kids with year-round relevancy as it cycles through the four seasons and all the changes in nature that comes along with them. Each season references a major holiday such as Easter, Independence Day, Halloween, and Christmas.
The author uses poetry and rhyme to highlight traditional outdoor and indoor activities for each season. For example, in the Winter section, verses include the sampling below which captures the essence of the season.
Leaving cookies for Santa, hoping he comes,
HIgh-fiving next morning when you find crumbs.
Playing games indoors, learning to skate,
Snuggling by the fire, winter is great.
Parts of the text are written in cursive which may be challenging to children who have not yet learned cursive (many school districts have even dropped cursive in their curriculums). However, the majority of the story is written in a standard print font.
The cover illustration depicts an apple tree with each quadrant of it representing one of the four seasons. The expressive illustrations in soft colors feature joyous and beautiful scenes from nature. They also feature children participating in activities such as swimming and flying a kite. The illustrator includes a diverse set of children who are enjoying the seasons – just like in real life.
