Duluth Trading Company: Hardworking Clothes for Hardworking People

Disclosure: I received Duluth Trading Company samples. All opinions are my own.

Once in a while I like to dress up, but for my every day wardrobe I prefer to wear practical clothes. I need something comfortable, durable, and stylish. Discount stores may be cheap, but often so is the quality. High-end stores sometimes (not always) offer quality clothes, but they’re not accessible for those on a practical budget.

That’s why I love Duluth Trading Company. They provide high quality, hardworking clothing for hardworking people at fair prices. I discovered the company through my husband who loyally orders from their catalog. He does a lot of yard work and takes care of our large community garden plot as well. As such, he needs durable and non-restrictive clothing.

Duluth Trading Company makes clothes not only for men, but also for women as well as select items for children. Families can shop for shirts, pants, underwear, outerwear, footwear, accessories, gifts, and gear.

All Duluth Workwear is designed and tested by tradespeople to ensure clothes can stand up to the rigors of daily use. The company’s down-to-earth outlook extends to its models. The Duluth Women line uses real working women to showcase its fashions. Models’ professions include Rancher/Midwife, Cut Flower Farmer, Creamery Owner, Landscape Architect Designer, DIY Blogger, and more.

Duluth Trading Company has that extra something that stands out above the rest. The company’s products are known for the forethought placed in its design and production. Innovative product details make you think, “Wow, what a cool concept, I wish I thought of that!” Their clothing line is designed to solve problems for working people, and the collection is proudly made in the USA.

The introduction of the Longtail T® Shirt in 2002 launched the company’s stellar growth. A simple idea – add three extra inches of shirt body length – solved the problem of “plumber’s crack,” or the exposure of male buttock cleavage when bending over. It’s still one of the company’s bestselling items today.

You may be thinking, “But I don’t have a ‘plumber’s crack’ problem. I’m a lady, and I don’t do much manual work.” I’m not exactly fixing pipes, either. The physical parts of my day include chasing after my toddler and shuttling my eldest to after school activities when I’m not at the computer writing. I’m on-the-go, and I need practical, stylish clothes that are going to last.

I tried some of Duluth Trading Company’s new and bestselling items which included the following:

Women’s 2.5 Layer Drop Stop Rain Coat

With spring here, showers abound. I’ve had many opportunities to wear this raincoat. I love the coat’s vibrant blue color (it also comes in black) which makes me feel happy on gloomy rainy days. The fully seam-sealed raincoat is completely waterproof, and an interior lining prevents it from sticking to my skin. There’s also mesh venting on the front and back to release body heat. Armpit gussets provide freedom of movement, important for when I carry my toddler or pick up groceries. I love the multiple pockets – 5 in all – so I can carry my house keys, phone, and other items while waiting at the bus stop for my eldest daughter. Retail: $139.50

Women’s No Fly Zone Insect Repellent Funnel Neck Hoodie

Mosquitos love me. I’m the person who gets bitten ten times in an hour while everyone else around me is bite-free. That’s why I adore this innovative insect repellent hoodie top. The hoodie contains an invisible, odorless fabric treatment to repel stinging, biting bugs such as mosquitoes, ticks, ants, chiggers, flies, midges, and more. Rib-knit sleeve cuffs, a cinchable bottom hem, and a draw-cord funnel neck with three-piece hood prevents bugs from sneaking inside. As a bonus, the hoodie provides UPF 40 sun protection. Available in Meadow Mist, Icicle Blue, and Pebble Gray. Retail: $59.50

Women’s Steel Creek Water-Resistant Mocs

Sometimes I want to wear something a bit nicer than sneakers but not formal like flats. I love that the look of these Mocs fall in between so that I can wear them to a wide range of functions and activities. The slip-on Mocs feature grippy, non-marking soles with an inner removable EVA foot bed cushion that’s treated with stink-fighting Aegis® Microbe Shield. The durable, water-resistant pig suede uppers come pre-treated with 3M Scotchgard for long-lasting protection. Available in Dark Brown, Granite Gray, and Steel Blue. Retail: $69.50

Womens’ NoGA 4-Way Stretch Leggings

Women today live in leggings for both work and play. They’re my go-to item for my day-to-day look. But they’re often constricting and not practical (that is, no pockets). I am absolutely thrilled about these leggings from Duluth Trading Company. With 4-way stretch, the NoGA™ leggings move with me while providing lift and shape. The silky, stretchy fabric highlights my assets, and moisture-wicking material keeps me dry and comfortable. There’s even a handy hidden pocket on the inside, left-hand side of the waistband. Best of all, these versatile leggings can take me from day to night. I wore these leggings to my guest appearance on the Dr. Oz Show. They looked dressy and were super comfortable throughout my long day at the studio. Available in Black, Coal, and Storm Blue. Retail: $59.50

My husband tried several Duluth Trading Company items that he didn’t already have in his wardrobe. Highlights include the following:

Men’s Dry on the Fly Nylon Cargo Pants

On weekends, my husband is outside most of the day working in the yard or garden. It gets, dirty, sweaty, and hot. The Dry on the Fly® Nylon Pants have UPF 40 sun protection to prevent him from getting sunburns. Tough nylon material wicks away his sweat while drying moisture quickly. The nylon is brushed for cottony softness to avoid a crinkly feel. The double protected knee area is ideal for preventing holes when he kneels down to plant seeds in the garden or a bush in the yard. He loves the multiple deep pockets to hold his cell phone and other items. Some have quick-draw zips while others feature flap hook-and-loop closures which prevent items from falling out when he’s moving. A lower rise and specially-designed Crouch Gusset® provides greater mobility. Available in Bark, Black, Camel, Fatigue Green, Khaki, and Steel Blue. Retail: $74.50

Men’s Dry on the Fly 11″ Cargo Shorts

The shorts version of the Dry on the Fly Nylon Cargo Pants is just as high quality as the pants. It’s similarly made of tough 100% nylon that wicks away moisture and provides UPF 40 sun protection. Many deep pockets with closures prevent items from spilling out. Like the pants, these shorts feature a soft, tricot-lined elastic waist with a removable web belt as well as the Crouch Gusset® design for greater mobility. Available in Bark, Black, Camel, Khaki, and Steel Blue. Retail: $64.50

Men’s Dry on the Fly Lightweight Pullover Hoodie

My husband gets sweaty working outside so he needs a functional, lightweight top that can provide both warmth while wicking away moisture. The Dry on the Fly Lightweight Hoodie does just that. Armpit Gussets provide freedom of movement, and rib-knit cuffs stops them from stretching out. It’s super comfortable and one of my husband’s favorite tops. Available in Gunmetal and Pale Navy. Retail: $69.50

Men’s Buck Naked Performance Boxer Briefs

A lot of guys like my husband don’t like to wear “tighty whities” which can prove constricting and uncomfortable. Duluth Trading Company’s popular Buck Naked™ Underwear is a vast improvement. They’re stretchy, supportive, wick sweat away, and fight odor (who knew underwear could do more than just provide coverage?). They also come in a lot of cool colors: Black, Bluegrass Green, Classic Red, Dark Cobalt, Deep Hunter, Deep Orange, Deep Water Blue, Graphite, Irish Green, White, and Wine. Retail: $22.50

They’re super durable and made for guys who need to freedom of movement like my husband. The material’s FendOff™ fabric finish repels water and stains.
