DIY Yoga Mat Spray with All-Natural Ingredients

Yoga Mat Spray
I started attending yoga classes about a year ago. At first, I was intimidated by my lack of experience and the inflexibility of my limbs. But I soon got over that as I experienced the benefits from stretching, breathing, and calmness that yoga brings. Yoga helped me to manage my stress and also made me feel physically stronger.

Whether you’re a beginner or advanced student in yoga, it’s important to clean your yoga mat after each use. Yoga mats absorb a lot – your sweat, oils, and dirt from the floor. Leaving your mat unwashed may lead to mustiness, mold, and dirt build-up.

It’s Easy to Make Your Own Yoga Mat Spray

You don’t need to buy a special yoga mat cleaner. Try making it yourself with the recipe below. All the ingredients are natural like vinegar, water, and essential oils. You’ll save money, too, versus purchasing it from a store.

After you make the DIY Yoga Mat Spray, just make sure to test a spot on your yoga mat first to make sure the essential oils are not affecting it in any way (like discoloration) since not all yoga mats are made the same.

Containers Safe to Use With Essential Oils

It’s important to use the correct kind of container when using essential oils. Some essential oils contain compounds that can leach into the plastic. To be safe, use containers made of glass, metal, or high-quality plastic called HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene).

Both cobalt blue and amber-colored bottles are ideal to use with essential oils as they help to keep out deteriorating sunlight while protecting the aromatic and therapeutic properties of the essential oils.

How to Get Essential Oils in Your Home

Since we want this recipe is to be toxin-free, it’s important to use essential oils that are 100% certified pure and transparent about their ingredients. I use dōTERRA essential oils because they are certified to exclude synthetic fillers and toxins. Unlike most other oil companies, dōTERRA goes through the extra step of testing each batch of oil produced. The company uses third-party labs that have no affiliation with dōTERRA to ensure its purity. You can even find out each bottle’s test results online. Learn more about essential oils and purity HERE.
