Diverse Neighborhoods in Salt Lake City

Diversity might not be what you think when you think about Salt Lake City. Many may think of the Church of Latter-Day Saints, but that’s only part of what the city has to offer. Salt Lake City has become a diverse and vibrant hub where people from all walks of life have come to create their own space.

It is the business and art hub for miles around, which makes it more eclectic and varied than people think. If you are looking to move here, there are furnished apartments in Salt Lake City and a variety of neighborhoods that can provide what you are looking for. Here are just a few of them.

Central City

The Central City neighborhood has become an international part of Salt Lake City. It has a college town vibe where everyone is welcomed. Not only does this make it a perfect place to get food from around the world, but it is also the home of an outdoor headquarters and the Gilgal Sculpture Garden. Not far away is Liberty Park where you can find a playground, picnic tables, and pools. If you are looking for a neighborhood that is both diverse ethnically and as far as activities go, Central City is for you.

Downtown

While downtown may not be as ethnically diverse as other neighborhoods, it is home to varied walks of life. Business-people rub elbows with artists and artisans. Hipsters drink at craft beer joints and bars. There are a farmer’s market and art galleries. With so many diverse options, Downtown is a diverse spot not because it sets out to be but because it was inevitable.

Sugar House

The Sugar House district is known for being an eclectic neighborhood where artisans go to make their businesses and share their creative outlook. New shops and restaurants are coming with new condos and new flair. This neighborhood is Salt Lake City’s epicenter for shopping locally, with art galleries, boutiques, bookstores, and a business district. Like a lot of Utah, you don’t have to go far for some spectacular nature. The Sugar House Park is home to 110 acres of green hills, bike trails, lakes, and forest. You can also get some amazing views of the Wasatch Mountains.

University

It is no surprise from the name what University has to offer. It is the home to the University of Utah. Here, 30,000 college students from around the country come to study and have some fun in the neighborhood’s many bars and restaurants. Of course, University is catered to the students, but it makes it all the more diverse. It is one of the city’s cultural hubs, where all kinds of people come to let their hair down.

University has a professional vibe but it also has a counter-cultural undertone that caters to its art museums, theatres, and arboretums. Just because Utah is a pretty white state doesn’t mean that all kinds of cultures and ethnicities don’t come to study at the University of Utah.

Poplar Grove

Poplar Grove is the number one diverse neighborhood in Salt Lake City. It is a suburb that is family-oriented and accepting. The neighborhood offers a dense suburban atmosphere where most people rent. Its public schools are above average. Poplar Grove is where you come when you are looking to raise a family in a diverse environment. The rents are affordable and the community is strong.

Westpointe

A similar neighborhood to Poplar Grove is Westpointe. Another suburban area where residents enjoy cheaper rents and a densely packed family-oriented community, the schools here are above average and the residents are open and accepting. There are a lot of parks for families to go to and enjoy their weekends. It is a great place for a low maintenance atmosphere.

There are quite a few neighborhoods in Salt Lake City in Utah, and many of them are getting more diverse. It is making the city more vibrant and less monolithic.
