Cows Can’t Jump Bilingual Chinese English Picture Book

Books offer a way for children to learn a language in a creative way that captures their imaginations. When learning a second language, books can play a pivotal role.
That’s why I seek out bilingual Chinese English picture books for my daughter. I want to reinforce her Chinese language and heritage. And since she loves books it was natural to use them to achieve this goal.
One such book is the bilingual Chinese English picture book Cows Can’t Jump written by Dave Reisman and illustrated by Jason A. Mass. This book is also available in Portuguese/English, Tagalog (Filipino)/English, Haitian Creole/English, and French/English bilingual editions.
Cows Can’t Jump features rhythmic and repetitive text with adorable animal characters. Sample text includes:
Cows can’t jump…
…but they can swim.
Gorillas can’t swim…
…but they can swing.
Giraffes can’t swing…
…but they can gallop.
The book’s predictable language structure is great for beginning readers. Little ones are able to catch the pattern of the text. Don’t be surprised if they start guessing what will happen on the next page!
Each line of English text is mirrored with the same line written in Chinese characters. Even if children may not know how to pronounce the Chinese words yet, just by viewing the characters they can start to become familiar with them.
