Asian Pear Strawberry Smoothie Recipe

Disclosure: Bicultural Mama created this Asian Pear Strawberry Smoothie Recipe for Juicy Juice’s #FlavorFun initiative. This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own.

In every culture, food plays a large part in upholding traditions and celebrating heritage. Food brings people together and connects them. It can also expand the horizons of those trying new flavors for the first time. That’s why many parents are mindful of introducing their children to foods from around the world. This helps children to learn about other cultures and can lead them down the path to becoming global citizens.

#FlavorfulFun

With this in mind, Juicy Juice®, the iconic kids’ beverage brand, has launched an initiative to help families discover a world of flavors with its 100% juice line which contains no added sugars, high fructose corn syrup, or artificial sweeteners. The initiative aims to inspire kids to expand their taste palates through its juices, available in 16 flavors.

In partnership with Juicy Juice, Chef Jeff Mauro, host of Food Network’s hit daytime show The Kitchen, unveils the Flavor Exploration website. Found at www.juicyjuice.com/flavordiscovery, the website offers exclusive content for families. View original recipes, helpful cooking tips, and an upcoming three-part video series. Families will also find flavor-filled activities and games and can unlock special Juicy Juice savings. There is even a Virtual Flavor Wheel that families can spin from February 5 to April 30 for a chance to win daily prizes such as gift cards.

What is an Asian Pear?

As part of Juicy Juice’s #FlavorFun campaign, I’ve created an Asian Pear Strawberry Smoothie Recipe. This Asian-inspired smoothie uses Asian Pear, a tasty fruit I ate while growing up in a Chinese-American household.

An Asian Pear looks like a cross between an apple and a pear. It’s round like an apple, but the coloring is more golden like a pear. This is also why Asian Pears are sometimes called Golden Pears.

Asian Pears provide many health benefits. They’re low in calories (only 51 calories) and low in fat (0.28g). They provide a good source of fiber (4.4g). Vitamins and minerals in Asian Pears include potassium, magnesium, folate, and vitamins C and K.

Biting into an Asian Pear, one will notice a light sweetness and crisp texture. These fruits have a high water content, so are ideal more for eating raw rather than for baking. Though most commonly found in Asia, many mainstream grocery stores in America are now carrying Asian Pears. I found the Asian Pears for this recipe at our local chain grocery store. Once you purchase them, they can keep in the refrigerator for up to four months.

Try This 4-Ingredient Smoothie Recipe

The Asian Pear Strawberry Smoothie recipe is super easy to make. With only four ingredients, even kids can help make it.

For this recipe, you can choose whether to peel the Asian Pear. Leaving the skin on will provide more fiber, but it will also result in a grainier and thicker consistency. To lessen the thickness, just add more juice to the blender. Some kids may not like the grainy texture, so if this is the case, then peel the Asian Pear prior to adding it to the blender. This recipe also works well with regular pears if Asian Pear is not available.

As for the strawberries, feel free to use fresh or frozen. The latter will make the smoothie colder. However, if fresh strawberries are used and the smoothie is not cold enough as desired, then just blend in a couple of ice cubes.
